I took a walk around The Wallow this week to capture all the amazing flowers I’m seeing these days. Walking through my field gives me happy feelings! Keep Reading
Lazy Gardening
| April 27, 2011 | Posted by Issa under Gardening |
I’ve always liked the idea of gardening. Thinking about the actual practice has left me a little less enthusiastic, though. I loved what Joshua did with gardening last year, and I definitely enjoyed the bounty, but doing it myself has always intimidated me. Some kinds of information sit well in my brain. When I decided I wanted to get pigs, I soaked up all the available information about pigs. I read books and websites and… Keep Reading
Pregnancy: 37 Weeks
| April 26, 2011 | Posted by Issa under Pregnancy and Birth |
The average length of pregnancy from last menstrual period for white women giving birth the first time is 41 weeks 1 day. Giving myself some room on both sides of that line, I’m considering my “safe” window for birthing at home 38 weeks to 43 weeks. That means I’ve got one more week to go until I’m in the window. I remind myself that there could be 6 more weeks of pregnancy, which seems like… Keep Reading
This Is The Moment

In February’s Baby Bellyaching, I mentioned an ad that was so offensive to me that it was going to get its own post. I finally got the multi-page ad scanned so I could post about it. The more I look at it, the less offensive it gets and the more my reaction is just astonishment. This ginormous FisherPrice ad is a whopping 8 PAGES LONG, so you know they must have something really important to… Keep Reading
20 Years of Polyamory: Q and A
| April 18, 2011 | Posted by Issa under Relationships |
(Photo credit: jmscottimd) Readers have given me some polyamory topic ideas that I’m working up into whole posts. I’ve gotten some questions about polyamory that don’t fit into a whole post of their own, though, so I’m tossing them here into a little Q & A post. Several people asked about poly and children and how I’ll tell my child about poly and answer questions about poly. While I’ve known some families to really struggle… Keep Reading
Pig Playtime
| April 15, 2011 | Posted by Issa under Animals |
The pig adventure for 2011 is well under way. I’m very happy with this year’s pigs so far. They do a much more thorough job of eating from the pasture and are more active and alert than last year’s pigs. I’m not giving them a wallow this year, since last year’s wallow got kind of nasty. This means I go out to let them play in the hose during the heat of the day instead.… Keep Reading
20 Years of Polyamory: Thoughts on Monogamy
| April 13, 2011 | Posted by Issa under Relationships |
(Photo credit: kirstea) I ended the last post by saying, “For me, polyamory is the clear, obvious, uncontested right thing to do.” An easy question that follows from that is, “Does that mean I think monogamy is the wrong thing to do?” The short answer is no, not at all. I might not like some people’s reasons for being monogamous, but I don’t necessarily think there’s anything wrong with the idea of monogamy in general. Mostly,… Keep Reading
