Random Update on Me

Here’s what’s been happening for me over the last couple of weeks.

  • Thanksgiving went by uneventfully. Neither Joshua nor I are particularly invested in Thanksgiving as a holiday, and this year, we have no family or friends nearby to bring up questions about whether or not to celebrate in a particular way. We made a pecan pie, but otherwise, it was just another day to us.
  • I started full swing planning for the theme camp I will be running for Alchemy next year. The theme camp is called Fucking Awesome and is focused on positive sexuality. I set up some forums to aid in discussion and planning amongst participants, and it’s been fun to be a forum manager.
  • I finally got the ball rolling on a potential new career for me that will remain unidentified in this space at this time.
  • I got health insurance and have been to the doctor.

The health bit demands a bit more explanation. Joshua and I have been trying to get pregnant for about three years, to one extent or another. We gave the non-medical route a year to work on its own. Then for a year or so we tried the half-assed medical route, which involved a doctor who would give me Clomid but not do much else. After two miscarriages, we spent several months on pause. Now, I’ve been added to Joshua’s insurance, and we’re ready to go the medical path to pregnancy, at least for a little while.

Ahealthapple350fter my doctor’s appointment this week, I was put on a medication to help with my blood sugar levels, a medication to help get my ovaries and my uterus in sync, and a medication to address the under-performance of my thyroid. Whew. That’s a lot. It feels a bit like going from perfectly healthy to all out of whack in one day. But, of course, everything wasn’t perfectly healthy before; there just wasn’t a doctor there to name anything.

In any case, I’m on a path now that I hope leads to pregnancy. I’m probably not willing to do everything that might be later on this path. There are some extents to which I am not willing to go to get pregnant. But, for now, I’m just taking some pills, and that seems like an acceptable level of medical intervention in order to try to get pregnant.
